Jabal an-Nūr: The Mountain of Light

Before the Qur’ān illuminated the world, a single cave witnessed the first spark of divine light. High on Jabal al-Nūr rests the Cave of Ḥirāʼ—the sanctuary where Prophet Muhammad ﷺ would retreat for spiritual contemplation, seeking truth in an age veiled by ignorance.

Then, one day… history was transformed forever.

Angel Jibrīl (ʿalayhis-salām) appeared with the first command from Allaah:

“Iqra’ — Read"

(Surah Al-‘Alaq 96:1)

In that moment, a new era dawned for humanity. Ignorance was dispelled. Divine guidance descended. And a man who could neither read nor write became the eternal teacher for all of creation.

Why Ḥirāʼ Matters

1 It is the birthplace of revelation—where the Qur’ān began.
2 It is where the Prophet’s ﷺ heart was prepared and fortified for prophethood.
3 It teaches every believer: true light follows sincere seeking, and clarity emerges from devoted reflection.

Today, pilgrims climb this mountain not merely for the panoramic view, but to stand where the first verses of the Qur’ān descended— to remember that guidance begins when a heart turns completely to Allaah.
